I Tried Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat with Gel Polish—Here’s What Happened!

As a Professional Nail tech who loves switching up colors when I have the time , I’m always on the lookout for products that make polish removal easier , especially when it comes to

gel polish (because, let’s be honest, soaking in acetone is too time consuming ). That’s when I came across Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat, a product that promises an easy, damage-free removal process. But does it really work with gel polish? I put it to the test, and here’s everything you need to know!

What is Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat?

Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat is designed to create a temporary bond between your nails and polish, allowing you to peel off your manicure without using harsh removers like acetone . It’s a game-changer for sure but does it really work under gel polish ?

Testing It with Gel Polish: The Application Process

Step 1: Applying the Base Coat

I applied one thin layer of Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat and let it dry completely. It dried faster than I expected—about two minutes .

Step 2: Gel Polish & Curing

I applied a gel polish color, cured each layer under my LED lamp, and added a gel top coat. Everything looked smooth just like a regular gel manicure!

Step 3: The Two Day Wear Test

For the first 24 hours, my nails looked amazing. By day two, they still looked good but I noticed slight lifting at the edge. I definitely could have worn the polish for a couple of more days but I decided to still follow what the box directed . So after two days I was able to peel it off effortlessly—no acetone needed !

Pros & Cons of Using Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat with Gel Polish

✅ Pros:

✔️ No Acetone Needed – Peels off easily without soaking just use a cuticle pusher.

✔️ Quick Removal – No damage to natural nails.

✔️ Great for Short-Term Wear or testing new gel colors.

❌ Cons:

❌ Short Wear Time – Starts lifting after a couple of days.

❌ I don't suggest for Long-Term Gel Manicures – If you want your gel to last two weeks, this isn’t for you.

❌ Peeling Can Be Unpredictable and come off in pieces – Depending on nail prep and thickness of application, removal might be inconsistent.

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

If you love switching up your nail color before your next visit to the salon or want an easy way to remove gel polish without damaging your nails, Orly’s Peel Off Base Coat is worth trying! I would also recommend trying a clear BIAB and then using Orly's Peel Off Base . But, if you’re looking for a long-lasting gel manicure, stick with a traditional gel base coat.

Would I use it again? YES and YUP!—but only for short-term gel looks!
